What we do
Tree removal
dead, leaning, storm-damaged and large trees, including ones close to the house.
Stump grinding
stumps ground down below the surface, priced by how wide they are.
Tree trimming and pruning
deadwood, crowded crowns and limbs over roofs, driveways and streets.
Emergency and storm damage
a tree on the house, limbs across the yard, a storm mess to clear.
Tree cost calculator
a rough range for removal, trimming and stumps.
What will the job cost?
Pick a service, enter how many trees or stumps you have by size, and you get a rough range. It is marked as an estimate, not a quote, and there is no email to enter. Access, a crane and haul-away also change a removal, so add those on the full tree cost calculator.
On any tree job, the price comes down to a few things. How tall the tree is. How easy it is to reach. How close it is to the house, a fence or power lines. What shape the tree is in. And how much wood and brush has to leave the yard.
Who handles which tree
Before any work starts, it helps to know whose tree it is.
Trees along power lines.
MLGW trims trees on a cycle to keep its lines clear. It removes a tree when the trunk is within 10 to 15 ft of the pole line, depending on the voltage, and is endangering it, and with the owner's written consent it can remove a dead or diseased tree that it judges a hazard to the lines. MLGW says trees will not be removed because they interfere with service drops, the lines that run to your house. For the details, see MLGW's tree trimming page.
Trees in the street.
The City of Memphis clears fallen trees from the roadway. It is only responsible for trees in the street.
Trees in your yard.
A tree on private property is the owner's to deal with. That is the kind of job we do. See tree removal and tree trimming.
Town rules in brief
Germantown, Collierville and Bartlett each have their own tree rules. These are short summaries, not legal advice.
- Germantown: dead trees must be removed by the property owner, and limbs kept 8 ft above sidewalks and 12 ft above streets. See Germantown's property maintenance requirements.
- Collierville: the tree canopy rules exempt some removals, including trees on residential lots of one acre or less, and dead or dying trees once the Town confirms their condition or the owner has it confirmed in writing. See Collierville's tree canopy code.
- Bartlett: topping is strongly discouraged on single-family lots, and Code Enforcement wants notice before work on the right-of-way. See Bartlett's tree and landscaping ordinance.
Rules change and every lot is different, so before work starts, check with your city.
How it works
Call or send the form.
Tell us what you want done and roughly how tall the tree is.
We come out and look.
We measure the tree and check the access and what is under and around it: the house, fences and lines.
The work and the cleanup.
The tree is cut, lowered and hauled off, or the wood is left for you, as agreed.
The stump.
A removal leaves a stump. Grinding it is a separate job with its own price. See stump grinding.
